Depression
Depression is different than momentary sadness. Depression is a heaviness that takes away all joy from life. Depression lies to you and tells you that it will never get better.
If you are living with depression, you may feel:
- Hopeless
- Alone, as if no one sees you or cares
- Even the smallest activities take away all your energy
- Empty
- Loss of pleasure in activities you once enjoyed
- Unable to sleep
- Changes in appetite
Some people with depression have thoughts of self-harm and suicide. Help is available 24/7. If you are having thoughts of suicide, please call 988.
Even though it may feel impossible, I promise you that depression is treatable. With the right treatment, you will begin to feel:
- A new found energy
- Joy in life again
- Hope and excitement about your future
- Connection with friends and family
- Purpose in your work, relationships, and daily activities
- Healthier in both your mind and your body
Depression Treatment
At CCC we treat depression holistically, focusing on all the ways that depression impacts your life and your relationships. We use evidence-based practices that are chosen based on your specific factors. Our clinicians are trained in:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)
- Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
- Motivational Interviewing (MI)
- Mindfulness Based Practices
- Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)
Treatment for depression begins with practical and concrete interventions that lead to the most urgent symptom relief. Once the depression begins to lessen, more in-depth therapy can begin, which exams the root causes of your depression and how new patterns can be built to better prevent its recurrence.
Types of Depression
There are different types of depression. All share similar symptoms but there are some key differences.
- Major Depressive Disorder
- MDD is episodic and will last for at least two weeks with 5 or more active symptoms.
- Persistent Depressive Disorder
- Symptoms last two years or longer
- Postpartum Depression
- Seasonal Affective Disorder
- Unspecified Depressive Disorder & Other Specified Depressive Disorder
- Some people experience several symptoms of depression but they do not quite fit the boxes of MDD, PDD, PPD or SAD. Some may consider themselves to be too high functioning and therefore discount their depressive symptoms. If you are in this category, please know that you are worthy of help, symptom reduction and an easier, more joyful life.
Depression can affect people of all ages, including depression in teens, and may look different for everyone.
