Grief
Grief is a profound experience that is difficult to put into words. It’s universal, and yet highly individual. While grieving, there is a heaviness that is different from momentary sadness; it is different than a depressive state; it is different than a sudden burst of anger. It is unlike anything else and yet, when it touches us, we know exactly what it is. It is loss.
We often feel as if the one thing that can take away our pain is the return of the person, or thing, that is gone. And yet, that is the one thing that we cannot have. There are few moments in life so hard as grief.
The process of grief can encompass a range of emotions, including sadness, anger, guilt, and even relief. These feelings can fluctuate wildly; one moment, a person may feel a deep sense of despair, and the next, they might find themselves laughing at a cherished memory. This inconsistency can be disorienting, adding to the complexity of the grieving process.
In addition to emotional turmoil, grief can manifest physically. People may experience fatigue, changes in appetite, and other health issues. Socially, it can affect relationships as friends and family may not always know how to provide support or may inadvertently withdraw.
Grief can stem from a wife variety of losses. It could be the end of a relationship, the fall out from a natural disaster (such as a fire or a hurricane), the loss of a pet, or the death of a loved one. Regardless where your grief stems from, the experience can feel all encompassing. Like a blanket wrapped around your whole body, consuming you, and blocking off all light and air from the world that you once enjoyed.
If you are grieving right now, know that you are not alone. Nothing is wrong with you and you do not need to be “fixed.” Sometimes, the best thing you can do is to talk, or to sit in a safe space and to let your feelings flow through you.
